Congrats GP! Can you spend the next 3.5 months in a drunken stuper? That's one way to let the waiting pass more quickly - :0)

Get some well deserved sleep!

Congratulations! And well done!

Congrats! I don't know about you but the entire day I felt like I was at the track because every damned test was a race horse! :)

Now I'm worried they are going to throw out the last essay on Monday in response to the article in the newspaper about "making" accommodations for the effects of the earthquake. I don't know about you, but it wasn't last essay that I choked on...it was the con law test! It'll b e interesting to see if they actually do anything.

They will make no accomodation other than allowing people who failed to retake the exam

You typed?

Au contrar....you obviously haven't seen these articles. They've been on AP newswire for the last day. Not a sure thing, but at least it IS a possibility.

Congrats on being done folks! If it makes you feel better, I passed on the first time, but am still looking for a job. So, the repeaters haven't lost much time when it comes to the job market. I can't believe CP was on there again, and no civ pro.

Congrats man. Take a break now.

On a side note, can someone give me the format for the PT2? I had no idea how to write it. What was the 'format' for the argument section? Just the 8 points?

GP and all others,

Congratulations to all for having completed the July 2008 CA bar exam. Earth quake or not, medical emergency or not (Anaheim Convention Center - third day afternoon session), I have a really strong feeling about the success of many on here come November 21, 2008.
As for me, well, I enjoyed four of my favorite cocktails last night (Oban scotch straight up) and come tomorrow, I am taking the wife and two of my three kids to Italy. We will be eating, drinking, and my wife and I will be catching up on some !@#$%^&, for the next 14 days. I will be traveling throughout Rome, Tuscany, Florence, Menas and ending up in Venice, before we head on back to reality. I certainly hope that each and every one of you folks takes the time to heal spiritually, emotionally, mentally and physically, between now and November 21, 2008, when we ALL find out that we will have to get sworen in as of December.
No more talking now, about what wwas on the exam, how it could have been better approached, or any other nonsense, who gives a shit? it is all spilled milk as of today, so party on my dear friends.

My guess is that they will recalibrate Tuesday's a.m. session but only very slightly as it was 11:50am or something when the quake hit. We had only about ten minutes or less to go in the whole session. Still, if you gave one room in one locale extra time and no one else got it anywhere else, that is NOT a level playing field anymore.
Glad it's over

and they DID give extra time in Ontario, five minutes...but that is enough to skew the standardization. Hmmm. what will they do with that???????

The extra time was fairly useless. For the people who were negatively affected by the quake, 30 extra minutes might not have been enough to settle their nerves. For those that weren't negatively affected, the questions were pretty much done anyway. I took the couple of minutes to correct a couple of typos, but there wasn't enough time to make any substantive changes to my answer.

I mean, think about it ... when you've got 10 minutes left in the entire session you are looking to close up anyway. There were only about seven or eight minutes left on our clock so we were all at the end of the end, just like everyone else. Going back at that time and changing anything would have required at least 10 solid minutes of uninterrupted concentration.

Any effect the extra few minutes had, (it sure didn't seem like 5 minutes) was negligible.

But if they want to give us a few extra points for the interruption, I'll gladly accept. And if they decide to throw a question out, I vote for that ConLaw POS.

The fairest way would be to throw out everyone's lowest essay score. I believe they actually used to do that twenty-odd years ago!
Wouldn't that be nice!
The Bar spokesperson said in an article(that is currently posted on jdjinx) that they were "thinking" of recalibrating based on the effects of the quake. We'll see..

Welcome back, everyone. Now, stop having bar dreams for a while and enjoy life...until mid November.

I'm thinking good thoughts for all of you, especially (you know who you are).

I've just hung up the phone with Brian and given him his first work assignment post-bar. It'll help all of you to back to a normal [huh?] rhythm.

Many smiles,

GP,

First, just wanted to say congrats on completing the exam. Your perceverance and good humor are truly inspiring. And that's coming from a fellow third-timer, as I too sat for the Calbar for the first time in July 2007. I first stumbled upon your blog that November and must say it helped me maintain my sanity. I'm not going to proffer hollow words of encouragement such as "I know you did it this time!" (I'm sure we're both somewhat sick of hearing it, despite people's best intentions.) Just know that your hard work will pay off, whether it will be this time or the next, as long as you don't give up.

To everyone else discussing the quake, I was also there at Ontario in the room that was given the extra time. Like GP said, it was little more than a gesture of goodwill, and really made no difference in the grand scheme of things. I also read the news stories, and I truly doubt the "testing experts" the Committee of Bar Examiners plans to have examine the results will find a measurable or otherwise significant effect.

As for the ConLaw essay on day one--from the looks of things, just about EVERYONE (myself included) got taken for a ride. I believe the essays are graded against each other, so we're all in the same boat there.

Finally, I just have to point out (as someone who's taken the last 3 Calbar exams), that the Committee really does seem to be playing games. What was with giving a full blown CP essay for the THIRD friggin' time in a row. I can just see the predictions come February. "No way they'll test CP a FOURTH time! Or would they?" Meanwhile, they continue to play "hide the ball" with CivPro. They just won't let the cat out of the bag as to how they plan to test CA distinctions. Ok, I'm just bitter that I wasted so much time studying CivPro for the third time only to get hit with CP again. To the Committee: the Calbar is hard enough. Stop playing games already!

All the best to everyone in their bar-passing endeavors!

Anon 5:52 pm:

The California Bar exam is, admittedly, one of the toughest in the U.S. There are some 161,000 active members of the Bar. Realistically, the Bar isn't looking for 161,001.

Yes, you're meat. You're ground meat. You've just been ground up for three days.

This is a hazing that we all have to endure. Some endure it only once; others (myself included) endure it repeatedly UNTIL we pass.

The ONLY WAY to fail the bar exam is to give up and let the bastards win.

Once you're in, your clients won't ask how many times it took to pass, so go ahead and kick their butts. Pass the pig!

Whether now of in a year isn't the real issue. It's NOT giving up and, thus NOT letting them win.
