I'll bet the proctors let me bring my hard hat tomorrow!

The first thing I thought was, "Man, this is going to be a heck of a story. Unless the ceiling comes down and we're all killed!"

If the roof had come down I wonder how long it would have taken the Bar Examiners to come up with an essay about a negligent architect or builder? I can see it now... Did we assume the risk of getting our heads bashed in by one of those huge 3-section lights? And, yes, they're huge. Didn't really notice before, though. Funny, that.

I'm not going to go into a post-mortem about the essays and the PT. Gotta' get ready for tomorrow.

Okay, just this... but you all know anyway: Full PR, ConLaw, Contracts, and a PT about Torts (with no PR element).

Later....

Don't forget the Crim Pro w/ the Con Law.

I only finished half of the PT.. w/ the rest full of precedents and issues.. w/ no facts or analysis or conclusion.. how low can you get on a pt?

ahh.

Well in February I got a 50 and a 55 and only failed the bar by 2 points.

What was up with the Con Law???? I didn't expect that nor did I study for that at all. Oh well.

We shook, rattled and rolled in San Diego. Thank goodness it happened near the end of the morning session!

The conlaw/crim pro was out in left field. Did not study that at all and had no idea...just made up a whole bunch of stuff.

California is something worth fighting for! See you all on the other side. Push hard for two more days!

Good luck

I had no idea how to answer the ConLaw question about the executive order. I made stuff up and tried to make it sound good. :(

Some people got extra time as a result of the quake...how does that work or does the commitee even care???

Anonymous said...

It was shaking at Century Plaza - no one bat an eyelid, no one stopped to look around - everyone continued typing as if nothing happened - only Californians can do that - my hubby's comment - "lawyers are not afraid to die!" perhaps we should join the army and that Conlaw/CrimPro question would make the first 3 months of basic training in the armed forces a cake walk perhaps?????

well at ontario people ducked and cover...as it was right next door to us out here..just wondering.

I thought the Con/Crim Law question was out of the blue: and it seems that everyone I talked to did. Do they grade these things on a curve?

Also, could they have put a few more cases into the PT?

When the quake hit in Ontario, folks were jumping under talbes and screeching. I was still typing. I had hoped for a contracts question and, by God, I was NOT going to be denied.

Good luck to everyone.

Geez Louise!!!
Holy Crap indeed!!!

My friend talked to me about that con law question. I was able to discuss possible answers with her ONLY because I was a research assistant to a professor for that particular area! Otherwise, I would have been totally lost too. So that question is completely unfair!!!!

Man, I miss all the fun! I was driving N/B on the 405 into the Valley when IT HIT. Didn't feel a thing. Had to be in court this afternoon to support a judge/friend in a small claims action (she won).

Back to work you kids!

Luck to all, especially GP and CB.

I was in Ontario handwriting the exam because my security software ate the program for the first three questions. I was in the room that got the extra "five minutes," but they had told us to stop writing shortly into the earthquake. (at which point I noticed the giant swaying lights and beams above my head and dove under the table.) I was still under the table when they anounced we could start writing again and that's when they announced the extra minutes. I think if they make you stop writing, they have to stop their timer, so I'm not sure the time was actually extra. I just wish the earthquake had happened during the con law question. -Wendy

This one is for Anonymous on the Illinois Bar exam;

Could you please let me know what subjects were tested? How many of them written by the NCBEX and how many by the Illinois State bar.

You got an email?

Thanks

Good luck to all Cal warriors!

I'm a second-timer... The first time, I finished both PTs and got a 65/65 (first and reread) and 60/80. This time I didn't get to a full section of the typeathon, missed maybe 1/6 of it (the non-punitive damages) and didn't even get to write intro/outro paragraphs. Is not being complete an auto-50-55, or have any of you received 65 or more with a painfully unfinished PT? Thanks...

Another Century Plaza shaker here. As a Cali native, the quake wasn't a big deal, but I did feel sorry for the folks from out of state. Many of them were still talking about it today. At least they are going to leave CA with a great bar story.

That Conlaw question had me wishing I'd paid more attention to political question issues. Blah. Some how I finished the bloody PE. I typed like a mad woman for two straight hours and barely finished all the sections. I think I got my a$$ kicked by the MBEs today. I wonder...are there really people out there that walked away from the MBEs and say, "Yeah, I nailed that SOB!" If there are, that's awesome--but it wasn't me. I still can't find anything in my notes or books about life tenants taking out a mortgage....that one is going to haunt me till I get a definitive answer.

Good luck all, just one more day!!! Then it's hurry up and wait.

Not sure if this will answer the life tenant question, but I found this online.

What were the California Day 3 Essay Subjects?

Tell me NOT Civ Pro, please...

God could not give you an earthquake AND Civ Pro!

Anonymous said...

Day 1 - PR, Con law/Crim Pro, Contracts
Day 3 - Remedies, Real Property, Community Property/Wills

Good luck to all of us! Or should I say - Best wishes - since it's over. May the graders be in their best mood when they check our essays.

The lowest score on an essay is 45 which is defined as "wholly without merit."
That PT was a racehorse!

Anonymous said...

Unfinished PT - Based on my experience an unfinished PT is an auto flunk for that PT. So it is best to "fake a finish" and make it look like you got to the end.

Anonymous said...

Wow, no Evidence or Civ. Pro. tested. Evidence is basically a given in July. I would consider that a gift. That makes it so much easier without having to worry about CA distinctions.

Anonymous said...

I would think if you dont finish a PT you are done for...

Anonymous said...

What score is "done for"? 50? 55? 60?

Anonymous said...

I received a 50 on the first performance test in February and only failed the bar by 2 points, so don't stress.

Anonymous said...

Thanks. I had to involuntarily handwrite this exam, so I'm not counting on making up a poor performance on a PT with my other essays. But you're right, no sense fretting about it.

The earthquake was awesom, lots of people jumping out of their chair, the girl from Texas behind me started crying, while I just laughed at the whole thing and kept typing. It lasted quite a while, so we were given an extra 5 minutes. I understand that during the '89 quake in Frisco, the protors told everyone to stay in their chairs, and no extra time would be given - while lights were flickering on and off with the building shaking back and forth.

Do you know what happened that prompted the 50? I swear I got a 65 on a terrible one and a 60 on a great one last time. It all seems quite random.
