... I'd better be a damn good judgment collector because I'm not going to be an attorney any time soon.
When all y'all go out and win a case, and when the defendant decides not to pay, (and you're in the Los Angeles area), give a thought to referring them to me.
Until .....

Just don't give up man.
I can't begin to imagine how you feel right now, but as someone who has followed your blog since last July, I just want you to know how sorry I am that it didn't work out this time. Whatever you ultimately decide to do, I wish you the best of luck in all of your future endeavors.
F&%k. So sorry.
Oh, I am so sorry to hear that, GP. I am still pulling for you.
I'm with you GP. My name doesn't appear on the pass list, either. God it sucks. :-(
I'm so sorry.
GP,
JLK said it:(

My heart goes out to you. Hang it there, man. I think that you should give Essay Advantage a try. It showed me how to structure my CA essay and PT exams. You know the law. It's a matter of putting down what the graders want (I don't work for EA or Barbri).

I'm very sorry because I know how you're feeling.
From reading your blog, I also know that you can and will do this!
Regroup, Refocus, Reclaim!
God Bless!
Cheer up GP
Second try and didn't pass either.
I'd better go back to Fl. Keep trying.

don't let those bastards tell you what you can or cant do.
If you believe then its only a matter of time.
there's always new jersey
Personally, I think "I own my own business" sounds way cooler than "I'm a lawyer." Nobody's eyes will fill up with hatred or disgust. Well... maybe after you tell them what the business is. ;)
I'm sure you'll be a great judgment collector, until....
I didn't pass either. sucks.
I didn't pass either... I'm not surprised, but I was still kind of crushed to have my last sliver of hope taken away by the cold, hard reality of the official results.
Hi Grand Poobah,
I have been following your blog ever since I decided to take the CA Bar. Even though you may not know it, your blog has been very helpful to me. You were there when I didn't want to read another subject or write another essay. You were there to share the pressure and experience. I passed and feel very lucky that I did.
I know it's hard to hear but I know you will make it next time. Hang in there!
W
I was a repeater, too, and I didn't pass either, GP. Hang in there. I'm not going to give up. I'm determined to pass this thing!
i kept putting my app and file number thinking it was a fluke. keep your head up gp. i'm right there with ya.
Hey GP
I'm sorry to hear the bad news. On Monday, you'll get your scores and maybe some closure. Fall down 6 times, get up 7.
I'm a third time taker, with an out of state but ABA accredited and I finally passed. I took Barbri the first time and scored a 1390. I then used a private tutor who cost $8,000 (LA area based) for Feb 2008 and failed. Now I studied on my own and I passed. I'll probably write something longer on the website what I did differently but keep in there. It will happen.
Goodluck.
I'm so sorry to hear that you didn't pass. I found your blog the night after the first day of the exams. I am 47 and was taking the California Bar for the first time: the law is also my second career.
I'm sure the last thing you want to hear is that you should try again.
But you should.
GP,
Never
Never
Never
give up
GP,
See you in Ontario when we kick the bar exam's ASS! Sorry it didn't work out this time, it didn't for myself as well.....

this was my first attempt at the CA bar after having taken and passed the bar in another state where I was fortunate enough to have won lots and lots of cases and a fair amount of money trying cases, I can tell you this--when you pass this bar and when you have a successful career it will be because of the heart and empathy and determination that you have clearly displayed in this blog.
You cannot allow your dreams to be taken because of these difficulties. You cannot forget about that future client who will need you because every other lawyer turned his or her back on them because of this reason or that, but it will be you who has suffered and know what hopelessness feels like who will step up and help.
I did not pass this bar, I don't know why, my pain and disappointment is somewhat muted by
knowing i have passed before--I hope that your pain and disappointment is eased by how much you have helped many other people endure this ugliness.
If you quit, you will let yourself down but I guarantee you that you will also be letting down some one, a mom or dad whose child is sick, an innocent kid--someone who needs an attorney who gives a damn--and you unquestionably give a damn.
Dear GP,
I passed, but came here because I had prayed that you would pass and wanted so very much to celebrate with you.
I have lots of study aids. Do you need more study aids? I would be happy to give them to you for FREE, (if you could just pay the shipping). I am unemployed and spent most of my savings on school and study materials.
I could not afford to take any bar review course so I had to get used bar review material. But I would love to give these to you if you don't already have material.
If you want these, post a comment here and I'll check this site in a few days and then try to get your email or something to arrange shipment.
One of the biggest deals I got as far as review materials was the California bar essays that you purchase and receive via internet.
It has tons of prior essays and actual answers from appicants and their scores. I think it only cost me $75, but it had performance tests and all essay subjects.
From reading these actual essays and seeing the scores, I think sometimes it just depended on who read your essay. Some of the essays are pretty poor, yet they receive high scores. Some were really great, but received low scores.
So chin up, perhaps the attorney that read your essays did not give you the credit you deserved.
Don't give up. All of us that are posting comments here want so badly to see your post that you finally made it.
I pray for success on your next attempt in February and also that your business is successful.
Thank you for all your posts.
Sincerely,
Di
Di, was wondering what study materials you used. Can you list it for us who are in the same boat as GP?
Thanks.
GP,
You are an inspiration to us all.
Indeed, you're an inspiration. I've never posted a comment before, but I've been following your blog for a while. It took me lots of tears and three exams to see the passing screen. You're clearly a smart guy and totally deserve to pass. Don't give up. As you're adding knowledge, it will be easier for you next time and I'm sure you'll pass.
Stay in peace.
All the best!!!!
Ditto everyone else. This blog has been an inspiration. The California Bar needs more people with your talents, insight, and perspective within its ranks. I'm really sorry that things did not work out this time around.
GP
Thank's for resetting the timer!
I've never posted a comment either, but I really want you to succeed. I agree with the poster who suggested using the real essays--those were great and it DID highlight the fact that things depend on who you get. I hope you try again because you deserve to be part of the CA Bar.
GP:
We're going to f-ing do it this time around.
Don't give up.
I'm sorry to hear you didn't pass. I found your blog while studying for the July 08 bar.
All I can offer is to keep pressing forward.
Best of luck this Feb.
I just turned 51 between taking the exam and finding out the results. I spent 4 years in law school part time while working full time. I took over 2 months off to study for the exam because I only wanted to take it once. I studied 10-12 hours per day, every day. I felt very good after taking the exam.
I just found out that I passed.
It can be done at any age, don't give up.
Good Luck,
Roger
I didn't pass the first time in Feb '08 and decided to give my ego a rest and get my life back by sitting out this past July. I'm gearing up for Round 2 this Feb. Have you thought of sitting this one out to take a break and give it some perspective and relax before trying again?
I'm so sorry. That is completely f($%(*@#*%(@ up.

This is a crime. You were robbed. If you take it again, use Bar Graders...
I am in the same boat and it sucks. I was wondering how you did on the MBE's. I know you used adaptibar and I was going to sign up. I have old BAR BRI software and I was wondering if you thought it was worth the money? Or if the old software would be the same result?
GP - If you need advice re: Bay Area counties' procedures and judgment collection, Calbar Blondie has my email address. I do a lot of that kind of work and know some of the quirks with different counties' Sheriff's departments levying on Writs of Execution, etc. BTW, if you have a bank account number of the judgment debtor, check with the bank to see if they have a safe deposit box. You'd be surprised what you might find. We once found $300K in cash!

Stay strong. Your blog gave me a sense of connection and strength, for which I am incredibly grateful.

GP-
I can't believe what you Cali bar takers have to put up with...damn. Some things just ain't right and this is one of them. I'll keep pulling for you from the political hub of the free world.
I wish I had saved an email a great friend of mine told me when I passed on my bad news in October 2007. He said something that he hasn't ever known me to have an ounce of quit in me. Obviously, you've had a good dose of the same medicine. Keep at it!
GP-
I agree with the person who used Bar Graders... This was the third time I took the bar too. I passed this time but I think it was because of Bar Graders. I have around 12 unused essays if you want them.
Hey GP - the fact that you've helped so many of us through this process says a lot about your character and your strength. I really believe the best attorneys are those who had to fight extra hard to become attorneys. Very soon YOU will be one of those great attorneys. Please stay strong and know that we are all behind you!!!
For what it's worth. I used BarPassers my third time around and passed. I must have scored high enough on my MBEs to compensate for my not-so-good. I am not an "outline" person so the Barpasser charts really worked for me.
Stay postive GP, we are all pulling for you!

Both GP and I need your email address!!! Email me: calbarblondie@hotmail.com. thanks...
