I think I'm Going To Wait ...

... until Sunday, or Monday, to get my results.

I'm so tired of the whole anticipation/hope/failure/despair experience that I'm just going to put my fingers in my ears and hum loudly until I get the letter in the mail on Monday. Or Tuesday. ("220, 221, whatever it takes.")

I mean, how many times am I going to put my finger in the fire before I learn that it burns?

If that law of nature is going to change, it's going to have to knock on my door and convince me that it's changed before I trust it again.

I've moved on. My life no longer revolves around passing the bar exam. Don't get me wrong, I'm going to take it until I get a passing score. It's just that I have to get on with the business of living, and earning a living, until I do pass it.

I will be a lawyer and I will practice law. I've got too much invested to abandon it now. And it's not just about the money. Every aspect of my life is now pointed down the path of a legal career. The bar exam has simply been reduced in significance to something as procedural as getting a business license or filing a dba.

If I didn't rearrange the stress load, I'd crash.

And I'm not going to crash.

(Disclaimer: I reserve the right to abandon this plan if my wife can't wait!) (;-)>

After I had taken the exam for the fourth time, I, too, decided that I would wait a day or so to check the results. People would ask me why wait and reminded me that my score was already determined. My waiting would not change a thing. Why prolong the agony--if I had not passed, at least I had an extra day or so to study again, right? So, I caved in and shortly after the website was up, I found that I had passed. My 2 year old son and I jumped up and down and screamed "we passed, we passed!" Its a tough, long road and one you will conquer. I want you to celebrate Friday night and jump up and down just as i did--and put this stress behind you. Good luck!

WTF. Just check it online when the results come out. Either you get to party all weekend and celebrate a job well done, or you have a couple of days to get over the disappointment.

just check. i am stuck camping for my father-in-law's birthday.....and i am sneaking away to find internet back in 29 Palms.....my wife suggested waiting, which i am refusing.

just check. good luck

I understand your point in wanting to wait. I have thought about it as well, mainly because it would be nice to have control over SOME aspect of this process. Fortunately, you have currently have a job and plenty of experience to rely on during the tough job market right now. I'm stuck in that awful place of needing experience to get hired, yet needing experience to get experience. I'm hoping positive results on Friday will be the start of some good karma--the worlds gotta balance out at some point, right? Best of luck to you!

Oh, and since I don't have control over much in my life right now, I planted a vegetable garden. At least the bar examiners can't take that away from me!

Your readers will be waiting with bated breath!!!!

read the disclaimer...i have a feeling his wife won't be able to wait.

to GP: good luck! i started reading your blog a few weeks back and i'm totally rooting for you! i'm waiting for my results too, but unlike you, i will be checking at 6:01 p.m. (if traffic on the road on the internet isn't too bad)

Our results have been decided a while ago - why wait for the weekend to pass? The stress will only build up more...

Life will go on, as it always does regardless of the result... Enjoy the moment of anticipation and the awaited success!

Anon 9:33 - Are you a remorseless humanoid machine sent back in time to kill John Conner? You're either going to check or wish you had. Just think how much better the weekend will be knowing you passed!

For those of you who have taken the exam before, what were your scores on the essays,PT, and MBE. Were they way off like all 50s on the essays? I'm just trying to get an idea of how it looks and if you can tell where you need to improve. Thanks!

I sincerely hope you pass.

As a second time taker, I totally understand your point of view. For me, the possibility of finding out I passed is not tempting enough to outweigh my fear of finding out definitively that I failed again. The anticipation that comes with still not knowing is actually preferable to the devastating knowledge that I failed, so I think I'll hold onto my ignorance as long as I can, and wait for that letter to come in the mail, too.

Good luck, GP. Your website has been a comfort to me...

Well, since it's anonymous, I'll tell you what I got in June 08. I got 4 50's, and 2 55's on the essay. 114 raw on the MBE, and 2 65's on the PT. This gave me around a 1340 overall.

This time, I focussed mainly on essays and MBE. Hopefully it will get me to a 1440. I know I'll get closer, but just not sure how close.

As a repeater, I TOTALLY understand why one would want to wait for the mail as opposed to checking the results right away. I almost feel like I can't expect to pass; passing is unfahtomable. And, checking right only expedites that inevitable sense of despair, confusion, frustration, pressure, defeat, and failure that is so overwhelming at that moment. It's like waiting for it in the mail is less accosting and caustic-- less defining perhaps. But, anyway, to each his own. All that matters is that we are at peace with our decision to check alone, with family, or wait for the mail. Best.

re: Anon 14 May 1047

here's an Excel ss re: CBX Score analysis link:

http://www.all4jds.com/Portals/0/activeforums_Attach/12438107871.xls

It'll give you info re: ave written grades (Essay or PT on X or Y axis) and what MBE score you would have needed to pass. Alt: based upon your MBE score, it'd show you what you needed to ave on either written portion to pass.

U need to update w/ info posted by Bar Examiners "MBE Conversion Table" and the "Scaled Written Score" parameters that are included in their pdf re: the "Information" link for unsuccessful applicants on the CBE "exam results info" page.

According to the analysis, if my writing stayed the same, I'd have needed 6 more MBE correct to have passed in July.

GP:

I have been following your site for the past couple years. I am truly believing that you passed. I understand what it feels like to be a repeater. Whatever the case may be, life continues on. However, I am expecting to read that you passed when I check your site again.

God Bless!

GP,

The bottom line is this, your chances of passing the fourth time around, are no worst than 26.5% and no better than 41.3%, so if you can find comfort in between those numbers, well than, you should have no problem, checking your status in less than 25 hours from now.

Good luck

It is your call, but I wouldn't be able to wait!!!

Good luck!!!

HI GP!
I am firm believer of not checking and trust me, I have taken the damn bar a few times. I dread reading that sentence," The name you entered is NOT on the passed list."

The day I found out I passed I was at Houston’s Restaurant having a very strong drink and sitting around with some friends. I gave my "booty call" the required information and said, "check if you want but I have been down this road before." The answers are released the following Sunday at 6 a.m. if you don't get any calls congratulating you; that means you did not pass-plain and simple.

I told my "Booty Call" to go and check since he had so much more faith than I did. I even bet him a 1000.00 bucks that I didn't pass."

At 6:05 p.m., he text me, "You owe me a 1000 bucks -Your name appears on the passed list."

We can't escape reality but we sure can try to postpone it.

GP,

Congratulations my man, you did it!!!!

Come on people...lets all gather around GP and hope he passes. But if he doesn't pass this website continues for another 6 months.

GP - you and I started taking this thing at the same time - June 2007. I managed to pass the third time. I have been following your blog since then, and I really feel for you buddy.

I have another friend who gets his results today, who also started at the same time.

Best of luck to you.

Good luck, GP! Just a few hours more. I have been following your blog since I took the bar the second time around in 2008. I will be praying for you.

all the best man! im waiting too. this sucks!!!!!!!

I've been following your blog since I first started taking it in July 2007... I know that feeling of utter failure and dissapointment and anger all too well of seeing "your name does not appear on the pass list" but i'm crossing my fingers for both of us. At the very worst, I like your outlook on life, things go on, and this is only a small step in the grand scheme!

Let's go GP! I can't wait to hear the glorious news!

I hope you give us a breakdown/review of your thoughts when you find out you passed. I'd still like to know what you thought of Power Dreams, etc.

Crossing my fingers for you. :-)

To all takers - I hope you pass, if for no other reason than this is all behind you.

To all who don't make the cut - this is the worst time to be a lawyer in 30 years. Don't take it too hard, cuz your life might actually be worse if you strapped on those lawyer shoes.
