Still In File-Upload-FUBAR-Limbo As Far As The State Bar Is Concerned

I've left a couple of voice-mails with the lady in the Admissions Office but she's not returned my calls. I'm taking that as good news (because I don't want to consider the other option.)

Some of you will be happy to hear that I'm seriously considering skipping the February 2012 exam.  I've come to the conclusion that I might benefit from taking a break.  Besides, if I don't pay serious attention to my financial situation I'm going to have much larger problems to deal with than merely passing the bar exam.

Of course, I'm also holding out hope that I've already passed the exam.  All will be revealed on November 18th, by which time I'm hopeful that the State Bar will have gotten back to me.

On the bright side (it's pretty dim, actually, but it's brighter than the dark bar exam side), I'm still working my Judgment Recovery business.  I've also been a Registered Process Server for a few years so I'm going to put some effort into expanding that business.  If anyone out there is looking for a good RPS in LA County, I'm your guy.  I've become pretty good at serving the hard targets - you know, the people that always seem to be able to evade the regular process servers.  I'll try to post some of the more entertaining serves I've done recently - like the lady who lived at the nudist colony in Riverside County who thought that she was un-servable because the people at the front office wouldn't allow the server to pass the gate unless he complied with the "undress" code.  The attorney told me she was not happy when I served her.  And, no, I didn't have to serve her in my birthday suit (though I did consider it.)

In addition to my process service business, I was just approved for my Private Investigator license by the CA Bureau of Security and Investigative Services.  I am waiting for my license to arrive in my mailbox so I can begin to advertise and seek work as a PI, but everything should be in place by the end of October.

UPDATE:  My PI license number was issued this week so I'm an official certified California Private Investigator (Lic. #27613).

That's about it for now. Keeping my fingers crossed for November 18th.

If you don't get good news on the 18th, I think skipping February might be a good strategy for you considering how many irons you have in the proverbial fire. As you already know from my story, I chose to do some "skipping" in order to put myself in the best possible position for my re-take, and it was the right thing to do in my case. And since you've read my book, you know that I advise repeaters who have lots of scheduling demands to seriously consider it as a viable option for improving their chances of passing on their next attempt.

Whatever you end up doing, I will be here cheering you on!

GP,

Are we going to see Grand Poobah on the pass list or are they going to use your government name? Anyway, I'd love to read some stories about your processing experience!

Hey GP! I feel your pains brother. I finally got all my moral character stuff put together last month so hopefully I will get the nod by the end of the year.

I'm doin legal investigations and process serving here in Colorado - a business I was growing before law school. There are not many J.D. iinvestigators out there and we have some unique advantages. You and I should discuss.

Check out my pages at www.tradewindsinvestigations.com

Keep the faith my friend!

Hey Brook,

Here's hoping both of us will be able to replace the "JD" behind our names with "Esq." by the end of this year!

Yes, I'm interested in talking with you about the PI business. Feel free to call me any time at my business number: (626)344-8667. It's a Google Voice number, which I can't always pick up, so you might have to leave a message.

Slight hijack. To GP and others; I've taken a few years off from (3 attempts- came very close on #2). I'm planning on taking the July 2012 exam. I will start studying in Jan/Feb. Time constraints won't allow for adequate study for Feb, but I will have adequate time to prep for July. If the bar exam fee isn't an issue (only time), why shouldn't I take the Feb exam as part of my prep for July? I will be starting my practice essays, PT's and mbe's anyway. Wouldn't there be some benefit to using the Feb exam as a measuring tool and as an opportunity practice stress control? I will have a tutor grade my essays and PT's anyway, wouldn't it be beneficial to have actual and current essays / responses be graded by actual, current bar graders? Wouldn't the real (and current) mbe's be better than my Adaptibar practice mbe's? Again, if the exam fee is not a factor, tell me why I shouldn't just sit for Feb as part of prep for July? Note: The timely deadline is tomorrow (11-1-11).

Thank you for your responses. I hope this is helpful and adds to GP's discussion here.

Nothing wrong with taking the exam in February 2012. It will help you get back on the horse and you might surprise yourself by passing. Good luck.

Biff here. One of your 2007 study buddies. :) Just wanted to say hello and tell you that I may be taking another state's bar exam soon. These past two years have been tough and I decided to go be a lawyer somewhere else. Wish I could stay though. Pass or no pass, happy holidays!

I would love to read about your serving experiences. How'd you get into that nudist colony, for starters?

I missed NY again, by very few points, less points than I ever had while studying solo. And this while recovering from a personal emergency I cannot discuss online. I couldn't concentrate, I was popping supplements like crazy, and I felt sick all through the bar exam. I was only a handful of points away. I am confident now that I can really pass the exam. And when I do, I will write the whole story (within reason) on my blog. Really looking forward to that.

In the mean time, I have decided to start making a go at practicing in the Other State I am admitted in, despite the long commute and shitty prospects. I really admire your perseverance in finding other opportunities, financial difficulties notwithstanding. You have lots of great initiative (being a process server - getting your PI license - wow!) and I believe when you pass you will make an interesting and committed attorney.

Good luck, GP. One retaker to another I wish you all the best.
