It looks like I'll set some kind of record ...

... whether I like it or not.

Hey, at least I can afford to take it again (that is, I can afford the exam fee - I certainly can't afford not to be working for attorney wages until November).

Maybe I need a change of venue.

I hear the weather in San Francisco is pleasant in July.

Brian,

Gabriel here...hey I did not pass either on my fourth try...but I plan on hitting the books hard starting Monday...question is do you?...:-)

My feeling is this...amy interuptions in a structured study plam...will never get you to the promised land. :-)

Don't worry about breaking any records however...56 times is the record in California currently.

I am having some scotch...my wife bought me a bottle to celebrate/mourn...whatever the case may be.

LIFE GOES ON MY DEAR FRIEND!!!!!

Im very sorry. I failed too. My first try. I feel like my life is on hold. However, adversity builds character.

Hi GP,
I was really hoping you had passed. I have enjoyed your blog and you've served as an inspiration to many. Keep going, you are going to get there, July is going to be YOUR EXAM! I can feel it. I hope you know your struggles with this exam is going to make your ultimate victory over it more grand! Study like you've never before taken the exam. From your MBE Scores, it sounds like you've mastered half of the battle. But try to pretend its the first day on the battlefield, and you're rested and ready to fight for the fight of your life. I guarantee you will pass. Most importantly have FAITH. Once you do your part again and leave the rest up to the Great One, you will conquer this. Wishing you much luck and God Bless.

Hey, I've been following your profile for a while and I failed the July 2009 exam. I was lucky today I have to admit. But I remember studying the second time around, all I did was practice practice practice. Over 2500 MCs and over 50 essays written. This is what it will take. Good luck in July

GP:

Been waiting for you to pass since July 2007...it was your first exam and my third. Luckily, the 3rd time was the charm for me but dude...something needs to change.

You need to decide to PASS this exam. You can do it if you really, really want it. I know that sounds cliche but its true with the CBX. Please don't let this version of groundhog day continue in perpetuity. DECIDE TO PASS...

Hey GP, I am not in law school, nor have I have I ever been, but I lived through the process vicariously through my wife. I found your website through google and have been looking at your blog to help me through the process. As in independent observer I find the whole law school process, from beginning to end, completely irrational. However I find your site an inspiration and source of good info for others in a similar situation. Keep up the faith.

GP,

It made me really sad to read your post today. You are an inspiration. I did pass today, and I owe it to you. You put me in contact with Judge Wilde a few months back. You even emailed her to introduce me. I believe those PT's and essays she forced me to write made a world of a difference. You are a good sould for all that you do. Karma will reward you my fried. I promise. If there is anything I can do to help you I would not hesitate.

Forever greatful,

Your Friend Simon

GP,

After I didn't pass my first time, I was crushed. It was the first time in my life I hadn't immediately succeeded at something I had worked for. During my rebound, I found your site and it gave me the inspiration to work hard and go at it again. I'm now a practicing attorney.

Know that there are people thinking about you and wishing you well. There are some good books you might look into on things you can do with a J.D. besides practice law.

That said, as long as you want to pursue your dream, I'll have my fingers crossed for you. Keep your chin up, brother.

Kind regards

perhaps try another state's bar first. i hear that those who cannot pass california, do really well in other states. they then return to california with renewed confidence and are able to pass california.

good luck to you.

GP - I have SO been there with you. There is nothing like the let down, the exhaustion, and wondering how to get geared up again, and if to get geared up again. If I have learned anything, it is that not passing only may mean you have not "mastered the exam"....never ever is it a referendum on your ability to be a great lawyer. My story is a little different. I had been a successful lawyer for almost 20 years, licensed in MD and DC. I moved to California and took the bar -- THREE times while working full time. Failed all three times, and got close on a third read. Had laptop issues twice. It was a bleak experience - especially since I had been practicing law for so long. I ended up getting a new job back east - but just before I left - I signed up and took the bar in secret one last time (no laptop this last time)- my fourth try. You of course know where this story is going.... Yup - there I was...sitting in my new office back in DC.....and of COURSE I learn in Nov 2006 that I passed the July Cal Bar. Four Cal bar exams. Somehow when I no longer "had" to pass, I did. I started a website and wrote a book called "Daily Reflections for Bar Exam Study - An Inspirational Companion for Law Students and Experienced Attorneys Taking the Bar," - there is a free video on youtube under the book title and the website that I hope will have a relaxing and calming effect. I wanted something positive come out of all that frustration, irritation and stress -- and to share some positivity. GP - feel free to contact me through my site, www.peacockstrategies.com, and I would be honored to ship you a signed copy of the book. The Feb exam is a killer. I hope you set your sights on JULY. YOU CAN DO THIS. very best regards, Marietta

Dear GP,
There are tears in my eyes that you did not pass. I am so sorry. I know exactly how you feel because I have been there. I eventually passed and you will too.

This community will wait for your results and I bet you are going to be presently surprised at how close you were this time. It will encourage you to study harder.

You can do it!

You must have been very close to PASS. You have to work in support of family, so do I. Good the July day is not far from now and San Francisco is in its gorgeous season now.

Come to a test venue you never been is an excellent idea. Commence the July exam in a new place as your first adventure. San Francisco welcomes you, brother!

I am so sorry you didn't pass. I am taking a bar for what feels like the millionth time in July. It's very hard to be one of only a few I know who hasn't passed the bar. I have done very well professionally, but not passing the bar is still a major thorn in my side.

I will be rooting for you whenever you decide to take the exam again. Your blog is an inspiration to me, and I'm sure many others out there. Hang in there & take care!

San Francisco's a bit cold in July. But, if you ever are up here, let me know!
Good luck for the next time G.P.

Check out www.emersonsbarreview.com it's designed for repeat applicants and has helped a few of my friends in the past.

I'm so sorry to hear the negative results, but it's the toughest in the country! You can do it!

seriously? July in SF nice?

Haven't you ever heard of the Mark Twain quote: "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco."

July is fog season...COLD, windy, FOGGY...by July 28 it might be starting to clear up...August and particularly September are the nice months...BUT the Bar Exam is actually held in Oakland (so it should be sunnier)...don't stay in the Marriot, its a rip, stay across the street in the Washington (no lines for the elevators or stairs like in the Marriot either)
