Well that was quick.

Just got off the phone with the recruiter for the anonymous company I mentioned in the previous post. I hope I didn't sound like a desperate unemployed person. I tend to be casual and friendly when I talk with people for the first time, and I talk too much. I hope that's not a bad thing when speaking with prospective employers. With me, what you see, or in this case, what you hear, is what you get. I don't say or do anything I don't believe or can't back up and I believe that the more you know about me the better decisions you can make. It's all about you, Baby!

Sometimes I wish I had a "Professional" switch that I could flip so I sounded more, I don't know, "hireable" to a firm. But at this point I would have difficulty maintaining that image for more than a few minutes. The company I worked for over the last 11 years was very casual. I suppose I'll need to develop a professional, or formal, persona for the legal world. Development of that will take some time, however, because I have to be comfortable with it. I hope the lack of one doesn't hurt me know.

Well, it is what it is. I'll let you know later if it turns out that they haven't already shredded my resume.

You should be patient and not take the first offer you get. After I got my first job I kept getting interviews from companied I liked better. Some recruiters work faster than others.

I agree with Biff. You have plenty of work experience in addition to the J.D. to offer. I actually believe those of us who have the more lengthy resumes(i.e. more mature candidates) are very attractive candidates because we have proven ourselves already in the workplace.

I sure hope you're right Blondie. I worked full time in school, only to find that according to my school I am less marketable because I didn't do the requisite internships, etc.

Please call me at my office, ext 121. You're smart enough to figure out the main number. :-)

Biff: If it were only so! Coming from a non-top-tier school as I am, the firms that are courting you will likely not look twice in my direction, let alone once. But I knew that going in. But I must find a way to keep the bill collectors at bay. Granted, their ships are still way out at sea. But if they do find it necessary to enter the bay, I'll have to find a way to keep them from disembarking and pillaging my village. (Pardon the pirate punnage! Arrghhh...)

Blondie: I understand, but the challenge may be in finding work as an attorney. IT work I can probably find if I have to. The call I had yesterday was for a position that was IT, rather than JD, oriented. And even though it was with a company that did trial work, my eventual law license would not be necessary in my day-to-day duties there. And they asked me about that. Not that that's a bad thing, you understand. A paycheck is a paycheck is a paycheck. But I went to school and took the bar exam to get my license to practice law. It's becoming more clear every day that I might not be able to find a position that incorporates both skill sets. But I'll keep trying. I'm not going to throw in the towel until the towel is the last thing I own. (;-)> But it's all good for now!

Anon: I feel your pain!

Richard: I have a solution for your Visa problem. Simply apply for an American Express card! The only difference is that you'll have to pay it off every month! (;-)>

Welcome, you are!

I think it's way too early to give up on finding a job that uses both your IT background and your JD. It hasn't even been a month since the bar exam ended. Keep hope alive!
