And when I say ...

... my "one remaining job" I mean the one job that I'm currently working. And as I mentioned before, I plan on taking a break from that one soon.

I can't imagine having to do this while working anything near a full-time job. The problem with the 15-hours per week I'm working now is that it puts a huge dent in the middle of three days that I should be using for writing practice.

Not to worry though. I still have a month.

Did you take the bar in Oakland the 1st time around? I took the bar in San Diego the 1st time but will be taking it in Oakland this time. I was wondering if you or any one knew what happens to our stuff (lap top bags, etc) if we take it inside the testing center? San Diego let us leave our stuff scattered around outside and it worked out pretty well. Any advice or insight? Are there any eateries around?

Thanks!

Stress, worry, etc ... thought you might be curious about my utterly useless predictions for this year (we were both wrong about civ pro last exam, so who knows):

tcbitbome: I took the bar in Ontario. Our arrangement was similar in that we simply dropped our laptop bags outside the testing halls and picked them up when the day was done. Many people left their phones and other miscellaneous items in the bags because the area was only accessible to those taking the exam.

Holden: The predictions are interesting, but, as you say, essentially useless. Almost everyone was at least 50% wrong on their predictions for July. So, having said that, here are my predictions for February: Torts, Contracts, Remedies, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Evidence, Professional Responsibility, Civil Procedure, Business Associations, Constitutional Law, Community Property, Wills, Trusts, Real Property; and not in that order. Ah, the safe bet then ...

Indeed. A master of the obvious, I am.

So, the next time we talk by phone, remind me to tell you what I had to do during the run-up to the Bar exam I passed.

As a teaser, I was unable to continue attending BarBri live because I had 5 deal negotiations going at the same time, and the mobile phone would ring the second the live lecture started.

Remember, you have "one remaining job" only for another 31 days, then its back to double-time!

Best advice for eating and/or bringing items to the exam - Do bring your own luch so that you are not dependant on any nearby eateries (although I think there may be something inside the Ontario convention center) and do not bring anything to the testing center that won't be allowed into the exam room. The few extra minutes you save by having your food ready and by not having to rummage around for any items is better spent re-energizing for the afternoon session.

You "plan on taking a break" from your job to study? :) Nice break. I can't wait for the day when we take a break from our jobs for an actual vacation.

Jonathan: I think you mentioned something about that on one of the days that we were sitting in the foyer of the office, sifting through your cornucopia of aged electronic components. With the constant distractions you were experiencing, I imagine that you must have given serious consideration to the idea of skipping that round. For me, I'm just hoping that the last month before this exam is only half as distracting as last July was.

So far, so good. (;-)>

In fact, I'm taking the rest of this week off from my other job. And there's a table at the local Border's with my name on it!

Anonymous: I ate protein bars for breakfast and lunch on days one and three. It was simply poor planning on day one but they kept me energized. Then I had a good lunch on day two and had to fight off sleep all afternoon. I reverted to protein bars on day three and had no more sleepy problems. I plan on doing the same thing this time.

MeasuringLife: Yeah, and my "break" starts tomorrow. From here on in, I think I can get by with one day per week, two at the most, with reduced hours each day.

A vacation? I haven't had a real vacation in 4 years!

Nice, that would be!

Hello GP,

I took the July bar with you and your blog was inspiring during those dark days. I was one of the lucky ones who passed by some miracle. I am writing because I thought you may not be able to hear the crowd cheering you on so I thought I would drop you an anonymous line.

Go You!!!!!!!! Memorize those checklists (or ICO if you are with Paul)

Anon: Congratulations! I'm sure your passing was not a miracle. Everyone knows how much work goes into preparing for this thing. Despite my comments of a few months ago, I know that anyone who passed had to work hard to earn their passing score, whether it's 1441 or 2000.

And thanks very much for the encouragement. I've determined that checklists I can remember, and short rule statements, are very important.

Your comment about the crowd made me laugh. Whether it's a crowd of one or a dozen, I very much appreciate the positive vibes.
